Since Hahnemann’s description of the development and treatment of mental and emotional disorders more than 200 years ago, many important results in pathogenetic research have been found and a modern multimodal treatment has been developed, which can be assigned quite well to his basic ideas but not generally, relating to his more historical understandable medical concepts. Hence, the need arises for a new way of dealing with the possibilities and limitations of homeopathy in the treatment of mental disorders. It is shown how contemporary homeopathic treatment can be integrated into a holistic approach including psychotherapy, social psychiatry and optionally psychopharmacological treatment which sometimes must be integrated in the interest of the convalescence of our patients.
